Hickory House Nursing Home resident wins Christmas card contest

Beverly Johnson, a 77-year-old resident at Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, is proud that her artwork is being sent around the country on the front of hundreds of Christmas cards.

On Nov. 8, 2015, seven members from the Hickory House Heroes team, including associates from Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, graced Citizens Bank Blvd. in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease.

“In 2014, the Philadelphia Walk was the No. 1 walk for number of participants and the No. 2 walk for donations generated,” said Danielle Kronmuller, registered dietician and Hickory House Heroes team captain.

This is the story of a nurse who had a dream.

Joy Mattson is a registered nurse at Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. She knew that one of her residents, Mary Troop, a retired nurse, had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. Mattson noticed that Troop was becoming depressed and that her hair was beginning to fall out.
